Tanuki Sunset is a downhill longboarding arcade game from Squid Squad Games where you ride a raccoon down an endless mountain road at sunset, and you can play it free here in your browser. The road twists through pink and purple cliffs, cars and trucks share the lanes, and every drift, jump and close call adds to your score. One crash or one fall off the edge ends the run, so the whole Tanuki Sunset game is about pushing your luck a little further each time.
The road never ends. New curves, ramps and straights keep loading in front of you, so there is no finish line. Your goal is simple: post a bigger score than last time.
Key features
- Endless downhill road: The track keeps building new curves, tight roads and ramps as you ride, so no two runs play out the same.
- Trick scoring: Drifts, air time, 180, 360 and 720 spins, near misses, tight squeezes and edge riding all add points.
- Tanuki Bits and the Bonus Roulette: Grab 20 yellow Tanuki Bits to spin a six-slice wheel worth up to 10,000 points.
- Phone objectives: Pick up a phone on the road to get a short challenge. Each one you finish pays 2,000 points.
- Rescue Kit: A baby raccoon named Kit keeps getting into trouble. Scoop Kit up and carry the little one to a worried mom for bonus points.
- Cassette tapes: Rolling over a tape switches the song and changes the color scheme of the whole world.
- Two music modes: Ride to the original Tanuki Sunset soundtrack or switch on Radio Mode for live internet radio.
- Photo mode: Freeze the action, change the camera angle and hide the menu to grab a clean screenshot.
How to play Tanuki Sunset
- On the title screen, pick START. If you are new, open HOW TO PLAY first. It walks through Basics, Turning, Drift, Tanuki Bits, the Bonus Roulette, Picking Up, Rescuing Kit and Dropping Kit Off.
- Choose your music: ORIGINAL plays the game's own soundtrack, and RADIO MODE streams live music from internet radio stations. The game warns that radio music is not copyright safe for streamers and content creators.
- Steer down the road and keep your board on the asphalt. Hitting a car, a truck or a rock wall, or flying off the edge, ends the run.
- Hold drift through the corners, launch off ramps for air points, and skim past traffic for near misses.
- Collect Tanuki Bits until the wheel fills at 20, then watch the Bonus Roulette spin.
- When the run ends, you will see your SCORE, a NEW HIGH SCORE! badge if you beat your best, and buttons to RETRY or exit.

Scoring: tricks and objectives
Every trick pops up as a label with points next to it, and those points go into your total. These are the tricks the game tracks:
| Trick | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Drift | Hold Space and slide sideways through a turn |
| Air | Leave the ground off a ramp or a bump |
| Air 180 / Air 360 / Air 720 | Spin half, one or two full turns while you are in the air |
| Near Miss | Pass very close to a car, truck or bus |
| Tight Squeeze | Slip through a narrow gap |
| Edge Lord | Ride right along the edge of the road |
Phones on the road start objectives. A box shows your CURRENT OBJECTIVE and how close you are to finishing it. Every objective in this version pays the same 2,000-point reward:
| Objective | Target | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Get near misses | 3 | 2,000 |
| Get a tight squeeze | 1 | 2,000 |
| Get an Edge Lord | 1 | 2,000 |
| Land a single drift worth points | 500 points | 2,000 |
| Earn air points | 750 points | 2,000 |
| Earn drift points | 2,000 points | 2,000 |
| Collect tapes | 2 | 2,000 |
| Do a 180 in the air | 2 | 2,000 |
| Do a 360 in the air | 1 | 2,000 |
There is also a "gather 2 Tanuki Bits at the same time" challenge, so watch for Bits sitting side by side.
Tanuki Bits and the Bonus Roulette
Tanuki Bits are the floating yellow triangles along the road. A wheel on screen fills as you collect them, and at 20 Bits the Bonus Roulette spins. The wheel has six slices:
| Slice | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 200 |
| 2 | 500 |
| 3 | 1,000 |
| 4 | 2,000 |
| 5 | 3,000 |
| 6 | 10,000 |
The game's own tip says it best: the roulette gives you a lot of points, so activate it as often as you can. Even the smallest slice is worth having, and the 10,000 slice can turn an average run into your best one.
Rescuing Kit
Little Kit, a baby raccoon, is in trouble very often. Look for the "HELP! OVER HERE!" sign. To pick Kit up, ride underneath. Then keep riding until you see Kit's mother, who is worried sick, and touch the circle next to her to drop Kit off for a big bonus. The bonus only comes when you deliver Kit, so don't crash on the way.
Tips and strategy
- Drift early, not late: Start holding Space before the corner begins. If you start drifting halfway through a turn, you are more likely to slide off the edge.
- Use the quick 180 to fix bad angles: Down or S spins you around fast. Practice it on straight roads before you try it in traffic.
- Chase Bits first: The roulette pays up to 10,000, and that beats almost any single trick. Lean toward lines that pick up Bits, even if they look less flashy.
- Read your objective before you take risks: If the phone asks for a tight squeeze or an Edge Lord, go for that move on purpose. That is 2,000 points you would not get from normal riding.
- Spin on big ramps only: Air 360 and Air 720 need lots of hang time. On small bumps, just land straight and keep your speed.
- Near misses are risky: Brushing past a bus is worth points, but a crash ends everything. Save close passes for straight stretches where you can see what is coming.
- Grab tapes for the objective: Tapes also change the music and colors. If you hit two of them, you complete the tape objective.
Versions and similar games
This is the browser version, and the game over screen even says that to get your score on the online leaderboard, you need to download the standalone version. Your best score is still saved on your device. If you like sliding through corners, try Drift Boss for one-button drifting or Drift Hunters for full car drifting. For endless downhill speed, Slope is a good match, and Subway Surfers is another dodge-the-traffic runner with collectibles.
