Retro Bowl 26 can't be played unblocked on a school Chromebook, because there is no browser version. The classic game on this page is the closest match: same controls, same roster and front-office decisions, just with fictional teams.

How to play Retro Bowl

1. Start a new career. The welcome message puts you in charge as head coach of a pro team near the end of a tough season, so you get a few games to learn before your first full year.
2. Follow the tutorial: passing first, then handing off and running, then kicking.
3. On game day you only play offense. Throw, hand off or scramble with your quarterback, then kick field goals and extra points. The defense plays itself.
4. Between games, use the Front Office to upgrade facilities and staff, sign free agents, trade, and keep an eye on morale and condition on the Roster screen.
5. Win enough games to reach the Playoffs, then win the Retro Bowl, the game's championship.
6. After the season, pick rookies in the draft and carry your team into the next year.

Upgrades and staff cost coaching credits. The game describes them as kudos, not cash: they show how much the owner, team and fans respect you. You can't upgrade the same facility twice in one week.

Retro Bowl tips and strategy

• Aim with the triangle: The goal posts are the same width as the hash marks, and the faint triangle on the ground is your kicking guide.
• Dive near the line: Diving helps you reach a first down or the end zone, and it also protects against a fumble.
• Watch stamina late in games: Your quarterback's throwing range and your kicker's range both drop during a game based on stamina, so long throws and long field goals get harder in the fourth quarter.
• Rest tired players: Players tire more as the season goes on, tired players lose morale, and low condition can lead to injuries or fumbles. Resting a tired player boosts his morale.
• Cut toxic players: Cutting a toxic player improves team morale, but cutting a non-toxic one hurts it. Trading a recently signed player also hurts morale and your fan relationship.
• Do your trading early: Since trades close after week 8, fix your weak spots in the first half of the season.
• Scout before you draft: You must scout prospects to see their potential, and the number you can scout each draft is limited.

Retro Bowl is made by New Star Games. The classic game's credits list Simon Read for design and code, @pixelnfl for art and Heatley Bros for music. In 2024 the Apple Arcade version, Retro Bowl+, was relaunched as NFL Retro Bowl '25. NFL Retro Bowl '26 followed on September 4, 2025 as the next season's edition, announced by Apple on August 12, 2025. On September 3, 2026, the same App Store listing became NFL Retro Bowl '27, so '26 can no longer be downloaded as a separate game. The App Store lists the seller as New Star R&D Ltd.
